Happy Thursday folks!
Here is my favorite passage of the week, two quotes and book of the week with two important lessons to ponder on:
Passage of the Week:
Author Jonathan Goodman on doing hard things:

From “Unhinged Habits” by Jonathan Goodman
Two Quotes:
“I read for pleasure and that is the moment I learn the most.”
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.”
Book of the Week with 2 Important Lessons:
The book of the week is Beyond Belief: The Science-Backed Way to Stop Limiting Yourself and Achieve Breakthrough Results by Nir Eyal with Julie Li.

A rare, deeply researched, and genuinely useful book that is as moving as it is practical. Nir Eyal reveals how beliefs function as powerful mental tools, showing us how to deliberately choose the right ones to unlock lasting motivation, resilience, and personal progress.
Backed by the latest neuroscience and psychology research, this book will transform how you see yourself and what’s possible, helping you think more clearly, feel better, and do your best work. In this book, you will learn how to: Spot opportunities others overlook and turn them into advantages. Strengthen any relationship using four simple questions. Harness expectations to feel stronger and live longer. Break through limits you once thought were fixed.
Beyond Belief gives you the science and the system to go further than you thought possible.
Here are two important lessons from the book:
1) The Power of Attention:
You see life through a key hole. Your conscious mind processes only fifty bits of information per second out of eleven million bits your senses collect. Your brain doesn’t passively record reality; it actively constructs your experience based on your beliefs. Two people can witness identical events and have completely different experiences because their beliefs filter what they notice. Your beliefs determine what gets through your attentional filter and what gets ignored.
Attention doesn’t just observer reality, it shapes it. It amplifies that we focus on while diminishing what we ignore. Rumination (repeatedly focusing on negative thoughts) strengthens neural pathways that keep us stuck. Recognize that your current problems may be partly created by where you’re directing your attention.
Beliefs are opinions that are open to revision in the face of new evidence. One tactic is to deliberately seek evidence that weakens your limiting beliefs, challenging your negative narratives by looking for contradictory evidence. Use the third-person technique (illeism) when you catch yourself spiraling into self-criticism. (“Ravi had a challenging day and is growing” vs. “I’m terrible” or “This is terrible”). When you find yourself stuck in a negative loop, step outside the internal debate for a moment to question the usefulness, not just the truth, of what you’re ruminating about. Set time limits on rumination. Always remember, we can reshape our perception of reality by directing our attention through the power of belief.
2) Life is That Which Fights Chaos:
When your life feels chaotic, remember: Disorder isn't a sign that you're failing at life; it's proof that you're fully immersed in it. If things feel messy, it's because you're alive, and that's an improbable, beautiful miracle. The goal isn't to eliminate disorder (that's impossible); rather, it is to develop a productive relationship with it.
This perspective on life as an active battle against chaos directly connects to the power of agency. Just as your body fights entropy at the cellular level, your mind can develop beliefs that help you navigate life's inevitable disorder. Agency doesn't mean controlling every variable. It means developing beliefs that support effective navigation of uncertainty.
Book I am currently reading:
Thinking Sideways: How to Think Like a Chess Player and Win at Life by Jennifer Shahade. This book is about using chess principles to make better decisions in life. Excellent read so far.
READING TIP: Question Whether the Book is Worth Reading
We often consume a lot of things out of habit, without questioning their worth, books included.
Never feel obligated to finish a book that doesn’t interest you. There are many great books out there to read. Read what you are interested in, or ignite your curiosity, or help develop the skills you want to cultivate.
Thank you for reading and all your support.
I am excited to keep bringing you the new and old books, great insights, and lessons.
Until next week, stay curious and happy reading!
